A Convenience of the United Premier Movement (UPM), Hon. (Chapter) Olalekan Shoyinka, he warned leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other political actors in the state of Ogun against the reduction of leadership choices to financial incentives and short -term benefits, warning that this tendency could mortgage the future of the state.
Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba made the observations in a declaration entitled “The Yayi effect and the political leadership in the state of Ogun (part 2)” made available for the times of the platform on Friday.
He praised Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, to facilitate federal projects, empowerment programs and political mobilization in Ogun West and beyond.
However, he underlined that the basis of political approval must go beyond what the aspirants “share” to party members.
“Ambition is the fuel of the leadership. What concerns me-and should concern every stakeholder well intended in the state of Ogun-is the basis on which our political leaders choose who to follow, approve or grease,” said Shoyinka.
While recognizing the contributions of Yayi, the UPM convocator has questioned the times of his return to Ogun’s policy after more than a decade of political importance in Lagos, where he served in the state assembly, in the Chamber of Representatives and in the Senate before transferring his political basis to pursue an ambition of the Governous.
Shoyinka asked why the leaders of the EPC of Lagos have never considered the senator as the material of the Governorate despite his long service and loyalty in the state.
“If Senator Yayi had been widely considered the material of the Governorate in Lagos, perhaps it would have been approved to succeed a governor in the most strategic state of Nigeria.
But politics, like nature, detests the void. Now that he has returned home, a land arranged for ambition has been found in Ogun – a land in which money, infrastructure and influence seem to be more powerful than inheritance, ideology or vision “, he added.
The leader of the UPM warned against what he described as the “a ṣàájẹun” syndrome, in which loyalty is guided by what the aspiring distributes rather than from their long -term vision for the state.
According to him, the real leadership must be measured by sustainable development and institutional inheritance, not by a short -lived generosity.
He clarified that he was not against the ambition of Yayi, but he was only attracting attention to the need for a policy led by the ideology to Ogun.
“If a better candidate does not emerge, I will not hesitate to support him publicly because it is my duty as a responsible citizen. But I must challenge our leaders to act in tomorrow’s interest. Do not confuse the momentary generosity with the visionary government,” he said.
Shoyinka warned that Ogun could produce a candidate without producing a statesman if the present trend continues.
The declaration ended with a teaser for the next episode of his series of political comments, entitled “The Future We Deb We Secure-a project for the policy led by ideology in the state of Ogun”, scheduled for the release of Monday.
