Urban Bandits have taken over leadership at Nigeria-El-Rufai

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, said Nigeria was in his biggest problem since the incorporation of 1914 as a ‘urban bandit’ has now taken over the country’s leadership position.

Former FCT Minister who made a statement while speaking in a lecture held on Saturday in Abuja to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the former Governor of the State Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi, said the sad state in the country was brought because Nigeria had repeatedly selected incompetent leaders who did not have the knowledge or capacity to rule effectively.

Speaking with the theme “Poverty weapons as a means of underdevelopment: Nigerian case studies,” El-Rufai blamed what he described as the continuous failure of leadership of the ‘urban bandit’ which he said rose to power without knowing what to do with him.

“Nigeria has been in its biggest problem since 1914, and that is why we together work and conspire to build a coalition to bring Nigeria back to its track because it is not a path,” he said.

“We have allowed urban bandits, not those in the bushes, but those in urban areas, called city bandits, to take over leadership.

“I believe that the problem we have is that we only get incompetent people, and we give up leadership to them. Most of them are not really knowing what to do. They only know how to achieve strength but do not know what to do with it.

“We hand over leadership to people who are just incompetent. They take power but do not know what to do with it. Wherever there is progress in Nigeria, it is because competent people have been given the opportunity,” said the former governor.

However, he urged Nigerians to make better choices in the 2027 general election and vote “wisely for leaders with true competence, abilities, and commitment to advance the nation.”

“The main challenge is to choose leaders with competence, capacity, and commitment to advance Nigeria.

“I think the main challenge for Nigerians in 2027 is really really to see those who offer themselves for leadership and choose those who have competence, abilities, capacity, and commitment to advance Nigeria,” he stressed.
