WAEC reported ‘bug’ in its data, urged 2025 Wassce candidates to re -check the results

The West African Inspection Board (WAEC) has asked candidates to sit for the West African senior school certificate examination based in the 2025 school to review the official portal and check the results in the next 24 hours.

The instructions were announced on Thursday in a statement signed by a spokesman WAEC Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, followed a greater concern over the possibility of mistakes in the new results -this was released.

The examination agency states that “Post-Result Internal Release Procedures revealed several bugs in data”.

“In this note, candidates who had previously checked the results were advised to re -check after 24 hours from now.

“WAEC remains committed to upholding the superiority, justice and transparency in all our assessment processes,” the statement said.

This development occurred after WAEC revealed previously that only 38.32% of 1,969,313 candidates received credit tickets in five core subjects, including English and mathematics – a sharp decline of 33.8% from 72.12% recorded in 2024.

The sharp decline triggered a broad reaction from the stakeholders, which refers to the problem ranging from poor student preparation to the possibility of deviations in the WAEC assessment procedure.

Responding to concerns, the council revealed that technical problems were found during the post-release internal review, encouraging suspension while access to results.

“WAEC sincerely regretted telling the general public about the technical problems found during the internal review of the new results was released from the West African senior school certificate (Wassce) for the 2025 school candidate (SC),” the statement said.

According to WAEC, the disturbance is related to the introduction of new anti-exam malpractice paper serialization that has been used by the National Examination Agency-which is applied to subjects such as mathematics, English, Biology, and Economics.

“The post-resulting release procedure revealed several bugs in the data,” Waec explained, adding that while the innovation was intended to increase integrity, accidentally caused errors in the score issued.

“In connection with this, the council has temporarily deactivating access to the Wassce 2025 results in the portal to enable the urgent review and correction of the problem identified,” the statement continued.

WAEC apologized to the candidates and stakeholders for the disturbance, convincing the public that the problem would be resolved quickly.

Candidates who have checked the results are now advised to enter again after 24 hours to confirm their score.

“WAEC remains committed to excellence, justice, and transparency in all processes. We appreciate the patience and public understanding when we work to solve this problem with the expected professionalism from us”.
