W’CUP qualifier: Super Eagles Leapfrog Rwanda with Win on Uyo

Super Eagles Nigeria only secured their second victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series after they defeated Rwanda 1-0 in the Seven Matchday match.

The game, played at the International Stadium Godswill Akpabio in Uyo, saw Eagles winning through the 51st minute goal by Tolu Arokodare.

Nigeria, led by coach Eric Chelle, suffered misfortune which could harm their campaign because of the top scorer Victor Osimhen was injured in the first half.

Cyriel Dessers came for the Galatasaray striker, and helped the team pile pressure on Rwanda until the winning goal was scored.

With that victory, the Nigerians had risen to third on the group C, jumping over Rwanda to sit behind the Republic of Benin and South African leaders.

Super Eagles will have another chance to claim an additional three points when they face Bafana Bafana South Africa next Tuesday.

Remember that Nigeria failed to meet the requirements for the 2022 World Cup held in Qatar. The team has three more matches to prove that they deserve to get a place in the 2026 tournament which was collected to be held in North America.

After 7 matches, Nigeria came in third with 10 points behind Benin 11 points and 16 South African points. The group winner gets an automatic qualification for Mundial.
