The commissioner for the development and sport of youth in the state of Ebonyi, Hon. Richard Idike and the president of the Abakaliki Football Club, Senator Obinna Ogba hope that the six -month club would win the 2025 Federation Cup.
The club defeated Nasarawa United FC 5-4 in penalty, after 1-1 full-time scores, in the final of the quarter of the competition played in Benin Saturday.
The young part thus became the first Ebonyi club to qualify for the semifinal of the prestigious competition in which it will be checked with Ikorodu FC of Lagos.
Idike during an interview on Sunday, he thanked God for the team’s giant bird businesses.
He expressed hope that the team was crowned with the champions of the Firations Cup.
“We have eliminated big names such as Enyimba, Nasarawa combined among others and we hope to break down more Goliath until the cup reaches Ebonyi.
“This team is only six months old, competing in the Nigeria National League and this gives us hope that God has great plans for this.”
The commissioner attributed the success of the club to love shown by the governor Francis Nwifuru, ensuring that the cup would be an appropriate appreciation for him.
“Ebonyi had had no football club since 2007, but the governor who has been loving sports by floating this club in 2024 and supporting it incessantly since then.
“The investment produced fruits since the club has projected the state beyond the imaginable borders.”
The president of the club, Senator. Obinna Ogba also in an interview, he praised the players and officials for their tenacity, urging them to implement the dreams of the Ebonyi people.
“Nobody gave us the possibility at the beginning of this competition, but we are constantly marching to claim the trophy.
“A possible meeting with the Rangers International FC Enugu will be a glaze, which indicates that within six months, we are waiting for Big Boys.”
The former vice -president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) thanked Nwifuru for his support and urged the team to make him extremely proud.
“The governor has revolutionized sports under the card of his needs mantra within two years of the assignment.
“We assure fans that this federation cup company will stimulate us to improve our position on the table nnl.”
