The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has given reasons for its non-participation in the local council elections in the state.
The Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC) on Saturday conducted elections in 171 wards across 13 local councils in the state.
The chairman of the PDP executive committee in the state, Mr. Steve Oruruo, in a chat with journalists in Abakaliki blamed the party’s non-participation in the election on a leadership crisis.
He said his party was not happy with the situation.
Oruruo said PDP executives in Ebonyi were working hard to revive the party in the state.

He said: “We are actually not happy that we did not put forward a candidate. Of course, you have to build a house first before you can put forward a candidate for the general election.
“It is true, our party is facing many challenges, starting from the leadership crisis and so on. I urge our members to focus on unity.
“We are currently building a strong platform to ensure that our party becomes stronger and more united for a better Ebonyi and Nigeria as a whole.
“It is not good to have only one party system in Ebonyi and it is not good for democracy.”
