Thursday, the interested parties of the Democratic Party of people (PDP) in the South met in Lagos to deliberate on zoning agreements in view of the national convention of the party scheduled for 15 and 16 November in Ibadan, in Oyo’s state.
The National Work Committee of the PDP (NWC) inaugurated a subdivision committee in areas of 44 members in view of the elective national convention. The committee will be assigned the various NWC positions in geopolitical areas, which the NEC will examine and approve.
Thursday’s meeting was held at the Legend Hotel, Ikeja. The parties interested in the consultative meeting convened by the subdivision committee in the party areas, chaired by the governor of the State of Bayelsa, Douye Diri, include the governor of the State of Oyo, Seyi Makinde, former national vice -president of the PDP, Capo Bode George and President of the Board of Directors of the party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, among others
However, some members of the party faithful to the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike, including the former governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, boycott the meeting.
Previously, some members of the party faithful to the Minister of FCT, in a declaration, rejected the Lagos meeting as “illegal” and “exclusion”.
The joint declaration signed by Austin Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, Venatius Ikem, Aniekan Akpan and Aaron Chukwuemeka, who preside over the PDP in Imo, Abia, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and the states of the rivers, respectively, promised to take all the necessary steps to resist the result of the meeting.
“The decisions achieved in secret and exclusion cannot and do not take the authority of consent”, reads the declaration, accusing the organizers of having put a strain on several state presidents, national officers and former governors of the South-East and South-South.
