Wike denies revoking Uniabuja’s land, defending FCT reforms

Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has clarified that he did not revoke any land that belonged to Abuja University, insisting on the revocation of 7,000 out of 11,000 hectares of institutions carried out by the previous government before he took over the position.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Monday, Wike said he only acted on what had been moved, emphasizing that the claims of the university on a large land could not be maintained, given that some government institutions had occupied part of the same stretch.

“The former minister has revoked the land,” Wike said. “If it’s yours (university), how do these other people get land?”

He questioned why a university needs 11,000 hectares while FCT is under pressure to expand due to increased congestion. “Abuja became jammed and we had to move outside. I will do what is right. When I leave, anyone who comes and decides to do the opposite, the descendants will become judges.”

Wike also discussed the broader land management reform, revealed plans to seal the default property that refused to pay for their land rent, even though the grace period given by the Tinubu Bola President had passed.

“We will seal all the properties. You cannot refuse the tax that we will use for development. You talk about the current health sector; you talk about education … Pay our taxes that you have to pay, but you say no,” he said, rejecting the concerns of political counterattacks and generators not to be hindered by “Blackmail.”

In the revocation of the Abuja technology village, Wike explained that although FCTA provided infrastructure for more than two decades, the area failed to attract meaningful investments and vice versa had been changed into commercial spaces for tanker parking and questioned land agreements.

“For 20 years, FCTA has provided infrastructure for people to come and invest but it did not happen. They have leased the place … So many people now claim to have CS O. I said okay, I have to solve this problem. Nothing is called the Abuja Technology Village,” he said.

Wike also defended his large investment on the road and bridge, rejecting the advice that the project was for the show. He said the infrastructure encouragement was in response to the original complaints of residents about poor traffic and access routes.

To underline that his government did not ignore education, Wike offers to sponsor journalists on a one -month tour to witness what he calls the “educational revolution” directly.

He further called for special intervention funds for FCT and criticized the unnamed senator for prioritizing personal complaints rather than urgent development needs. “Instead of encouraging more funds, he lamented not invited to drink,” said Wike.

Citing an increase in income under his leadership, the Minister highlighted the circulation of the international conference center of the Ahmed Tinubu Bola, which he claimed to have produced more than N1.2 billion in just one month – the exponential increase of N50 million obtained every year under the previous “politicized” management.
