Wike Slams ‘Peace Pleas,’

In the midst of a deeper political rift in the State of Rivers, the Minister of Federal Capital Region (FCT), Nyesom Wike, had called for the Governor who was deferred by Siminaayi Fubara to show honesty and transparency in dealing with the President of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing it of having double standards and lacking in a sustainable effort to restore peace in the state.

Wike’s statement contained in a statement released on Saturday by his senior special assistant about public communication and social media, Lere Olayinka. The Governor of the former Rivers blamed what he called the contradictory act of Fubara, asking for temporary peace allegedly allowing actions that damaged it.

“It’s not enough to visit people to ask for peace; those who really want to want peace and act for it,” said Wike. “How can you say you want peace and at the same time sponsor people to insult everyone, including the president and his wife? This prosecutor’s office will not bring peace.”

Wike refers to the actions of a group of women who are believed to be loyal to Fubara who carried out strike during the renewed hope initiative empowerment program, organized by the First Lady’s Office, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at Port Harcourt. The event, which aims to provide support to 500 women in the state, is disturbed when women are reportedly out of the venue as protests, attracting national attention.

“For me and those who subscribe to my leadership, we condemn in the total action yesterday and apologize to our First Lady for the embarrassing behavior of some women who do not represent the character and values of river people,” he said.

The Minister further stressed that not respecting the First Lady or representatives was the same as insulting the President’s office.

“I apologize to the President of Bola Tinubu and the First Lady on behalf of both people in the state of Rivers,” he added, urged all political actors to act with politeness and prioritize the dignity of the state.
