The Women’s World Cup will be expanded from 32 to 48 teams on time for the 2035 tournament in England, Sky News understands.
Decisions were taken during virtual FIFA Today’s council meeting.
Sky News first reported last year In the plan to enlarge the tournament to match the expansion of the male tournament.
This will take effect from 2031 when the Women’s World Cup will be staged in the United States.
FIFA still needs to ratify the hosts of 2031 and 2035.
The 2027 tournament in Brazil will remain in 32 teams.
England is the only antidote who hosted the tournament in 2035.
The Chief Executive of the Football Association Mark Bullingham said in April: “The host of the first British FIFA World Cup since 1966, along with our home partner, will be very special.”

There is hope that being hosting tournaments in stadiums throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will help foster the popularity of women’s games in England.
It came following England Success in Final Euro 2022 and 1-0 defeat of Spain in the 2023 World Cup final.
English star Chloe Kelly told Sky News last year: “Euro here is extraordinary and the World Cup will be truly extraordinary.
“I think this is everyone’s dream, of course … British fans like football and we are ready to be behind the team. So I think it is important that we have many moments of celebration together.”
