Xabi Alonso Provides Update on Boniface

Since sustaining the injury during Nigeria’s preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January, the 23-year-old underwent surgery, sidelining him for an extended period.

In a recent development, Boniface was spotted celebrating with his teammates after Bayer Leverkusen’s victory, albeit with the aid of a walking stick.

Alonso commended the rapid progress in the striker’s recovery process, hinting at the possibility of his return to full fitness in the near future.

“His (Boniface) development is very good, the recovery is going in the right direction. That’s very positive,” Alonso told Bild.

“We expect Boniface soon, I don’t know, but it won’t be until May, maybe April, and that’s very good for us, having Boniface back.

“Boni works very well, with great professionalism, twice a day. We need players who have the desire to be back.

Victor Boniface swiftly established himself as a key figure at Bayer Leverkusen after making a switch from Belgian side Union St Guillios.

His immediate impact at the club was undeniable, contributing significantly with 10 goals and seven assists in just 16 appearances for Die Werkself.​
