The rector of the Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech), Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, states that the updating of the institution to the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, will expand her academic offers to meet the evolution needs of the nation.
Abdul said it in an interview with the correspondent Oir on Friday in Lagos.
He expressed satisfaction that the bill that tries to update Yabatech to a university has passed through the second reading in front of the Senate.
“This update, once completed, will not only expand our academic offers, but will also position the institution to commit more deeply in research, innovation and companies that will meet the evolution needs of a digital and industrial economy,” he said.
He described development as not only a legislative milestone, but also a national affirmation of the inheritance and the potential of the institution.
“Yabatech has, for decades, was a pillar of excellence in technical and professional education in Nigeria.
“Generations of industrious Nigerians have crossed its doors, acquiring skills and knowledge that feed the engines of our economy.
“The movement towards a full university status is the recognition of the constant academic excellence of college, its robust infrastructure, its impact on industry and its role in national development.
“It is both a humiliating reminder of how much we have arrived and a clarion requires the work that awaits us,” he said.
The rector expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the update.
“My most appreciated for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for his vision.
“Thanks, leader of the Senate Opeyemi Bamidele, for supporting this bill with clarity and commitment,” he said.
He also thanked all the members of the Senate who supported the cause.
“For our students, staff, former students and partners, this moment belongs to you too.
“Your dedication, excellence and lasting belief in Yabatech have brought us so far away.”
He urged the parties interested in joining the university a world -level institution that would continue to establish the rhythm in technical and professional education throughout Africa.
