Yiaga Africa report on Edo general election based on allegations – APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to Yiaga Africa, a civil society organisation accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the general elections, to stop second-guessing the commission’s results in the Edo State governorship election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, stressed that INEC was the sole legal authority to conduct and announce the results of the election.

“Yiaga Africa is not, and should not set itself up as, a parallel institution for the declaration of election results,” Morka stressed.

APC argues that Yiaga Africa’s report is based on statistical guesswork without real facts and figures.

“The Yiaga Africa report is a tragedy, riddled with methodological weaknesses, politicized observations, inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and raises questions about its credibility,” Morka added.

Election Controversy

The Edo state gubernatorial election has been marred by controversy, with allegations of vote buying and manipulation. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Yiaga Africa have raised concerns about interference in the vote counting process, which they say violated established procedures.

However, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, denied claims that the APC was involved in vote buying. The APC victory was greeted with skepticism by some Nigerians, who questioned the legitimacy of the election results.

APC Reaction

The APC also hailed the election results as an endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, which have transformed Nigeria’s economic landscape, strengthened security and promoted good governance. “With their votes, the people of Edo State have loudly and clearly elected Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next Governor,” Morka said.

The APC has urged Yiaga Africa to refrain from creating unnecessary confusion and respect the jurisdiction of INEC. “Any dispute, contention or question about the election can now be referred to the courts for adjudication,” Morka said.
