Current Rivers United assistant manager, Yemi Olanrewaju, has identified with young Nigerian footballer and Molde midfielder, Daniel Daga, following a six-month prison sentence for non-consensual sexual intercourse with a female counterpart, Silvernews.com.ng reports.
Olanrewaju, who tutored Daga during his stint as Enyimba head coach, in a post on his official Twitter account, said the ordeal will make him stronger and more focused.
Describing Daga as a fighter and a warrior, the young tactician noted that the trial would not mark the end of his career, adding that it would make him a better person.
According to him, “to my Daniel Daga, if the whole world judges you and turns against you, I Yema will not. We are all human beings and we have all made mistakes. It is not the end of your life or your career. It is a bitter lesson and it came first to make you a better person and human being.”
He pledged to stand by him during this difficult period saying that “I will never abandon any of my loyal players during the period of trial and challenge.”
Recall that the sentence was announced on Tuesday afternoon and the 19-year-old midfielder will also have to pay 10,000 crowns in legal costs.
