Zulum disburses N209.8 million to 170 PHCs in Borno

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has disbursed over N209.8 million to about 170 primary health care centres across the 27 local government areas of the state.

In a ceremony held on Monday at the Government House Multipurpose Hall in Maiduguri, Zulum symbolically handed over cheques to selected health facilities from each of the three senatorial zones.

The governor, however, charged all facility heads and coordinators of primary health centers in the local government to commit to carrying out their responsibilities, ensuring quality services to the people.

He said: “Healthcare is a shared responsibility. As we invest in our health infrastructure, I urge our health workers, community leaders and all stakeholders to work together to maximize the impact of these funds,” Zulum said.

The governor also announced a plan to rehabilitate all primary health centers in the 27 local government districts of Borno State.

Earlier in his speech, the State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Prof. Baba Gana, noted that the disbursement was part of Zulum’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare to the people of Borno.

He said: β€œThis occasion marks an important milestone in our collective efforts to ensure that every person in our state has access to quality healthcare services. His Excellency has graciously approved the fund amounting to N209,819,306 for the two BHCPF gateways (BOSPHCDB and BOSCHMA) alone.

“This is a testament to our determination to improve the health system in Borno State. These resources will go a long way in improving our primary and secondary health facilities, enabling us to provide essential services that meet the needs of our communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, the governor has instructed the 27 presidents of local governments to manage primary health centers in their territories and ensure optimal services.

He said: “From now on, all local government chairmen should take charge of primary health care facilities in their domains. Wherever there are gaps, I want to assure you that we will complement each other to ensure that our people receive the best care.”

Zulum also directed the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BOSPHCDB) and the Borno State Contributory Health Management Agency (BOSCHMA) to declare to the local government chairmen all amounts allocated to PHCs in their respective areas of jurisdiction.
