Governor Ahmed Ododo’s aide, Dr Suberu Yusuf, has declared his interest to contest for the Adavi/Okehi federal seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 with the promise of ensuring targeted representation.
Yusuf, who is the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the Kogi Governor on Road Safety Matters, made his official statement in Ege, Adavi Local Government Area of the state.
The politician and philanthropist revealed his pre-election initiatives and awarded scholarships to 40 students, distributed food to 1,500 poor people and empowered over 100 people with funds and phones
He said his desire to contest for the federal seat was to give voters representation and leadership aimed at reversing the socio-economic climate of the constituency.
“My statement today is a confession and a cry from the heart of a son who deeply loves his people and can no longer remain silent while his land suffers.
“I am aware of the challenges faced by Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency, which include inadequate road networks, lack of water, insecurity and inadequate education for our youths in the squad, among others.
“I strongly hope to pursue employment opportunities, entrepreneurship training and support programs for youth, as well as empowerment programs for women.
“By the grace of God, I sincerely hope so
prioritize these issues if elected in the next general election in 2027,” he promised.
Yusuf, however, commended President Bola Tinubu and Governor Ododo for their tireless efforts in addressing insecurity in Kogi and the nation at large.
He commended President Tinubu for his bold step in supporting the establishment of the state police as part of measures to tackle insecurity in the country.
“I strongly support the president’s decision on the state police issue, which I believe will help address insecurity in Kogi and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.
In his opening speech, the Hon. Yusuf Ohiare, Special Adviser to Governor Ododo on Electronic Media, described Yusuf’s declaration of interest as a “moment of renewed hope” for Adavi/Okehi voters
Ohiere said: “Today marks the birth of a new voice; a voice of service, of empowerment and of renewed hope for our people.
“I sincerely appreciate and commend our distinguished leader,
Hon Suberu Yusuf-John, for the extraordinary work you have done in our communities.
“Your constant commitment to empowerment programs, your generous scholarship initiatives for students and your continuous support for orphans and the less privileged have brought relief, dignity and renewed hope to many families.
“You have clearly demonstrated that true leadership is not simply about holding office, but about impacting people’s lives and building communities.
“Many of our youth have been positively transformed through your empowerment initiatives. Numerous students who once faced uncertainty in their educational pursuits can now continue with confidence thanks to your scholarship programs.
“Most importantly, you have extended compassion to the most vulnerable among us: the orphans and the less privileged, restoring their sense of belonging and giving them hope for a better future.
“For these noble contributions, the people of Ege-Iruvochinomi District and Adavi Local Government remain deeply grateful.
“Today we proudly and wholeheartedly pledge our unreserved support to your aspiration to represent us in the federal House of Representatives.
“As you formally declare your intent to serve at the national level, we want you to know that we recognize your dedication, believe in your abilities, and trust in your genuine love for people.”
Speaking on behalf of Ege-Iruvochinomi neighborhood, Hon. Fatimat Abdulmalik, the immediate former head of Adavi Local Government Council, expressed gratitude to Yusuf for his contribution to the community.
Abdulmalik cited his empowerment programmes, scholarship initiatives and support for orphans and the less privileged as very heartwarming and commendable

However, the highlights of the event were the official declaration of Suberu for the House of Representatives seat for Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency, offering of prayers and distribution of pre-election initiatives including awarding scholarships to students, distribution of groceries, cash and telephones to some beneficiaries.
