Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar said on Wednesday that the 2027 presidential election would be his last attempt to rule Nigeria
Atiku, who spoke on Arise Television, said he would not take part in the upcoming elections because of his age.
The former Vice President will be 80 years old in 2027.
He is vying to become the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside other prominent opposition figures such as former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi.
Atiku lost the last two presidential elections in 2019 and 2023 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
When asked by the moderator about his political aspirations after the next election, the ADC leader simply said: “Because of age and the fact that the stakes are higher, I believe 2027 will be my last year.”
