Just 35 days after the end, Nigeria is preparing preparations to host the 3rd edition of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African Junior Athletics Championship, which will take place from 16 to 20 July 2025, in Abokuta, in the state of Ogun.

Returning to the Nigerian soil, the prestigious two-year event will welcome the most promising Under 18 and Under-20s of the continent to the International Stadium Mko Abiola, which recently hosted the 22nd National Sports Festival.

Over 500 athletes from over 50 African nations should compete in this year’s championship, making it one of the greatest meetings of young athletic talents on the continent.

South Africa, the overall champions in office, will try to defend their title, but the young stars of Nigeria are also anxious to make a strong declaration on home soil.

“This is not just a competition; it is a celebration of the future of Africa in the field”, Hon. Bukola Olopade, DG of the National Sports Commission.

“Nigeria is honored to host once again and to demonstrate its world -class capacity in the organization of important sporting events,” he added.

The choice of Abeokuta, also known as Gateway City, underlines the growing reputation of the state as a hub for sports development, together with other Nigerian cities. With its cutting -edge structures and strategic position, the city is destined to offer an unforgettable experience for athletes, officials and fans.

The Junior African Caa championships are widely considered as breeding for future Olympic and world champions of the continent.

While the countdown continues, all eyes will be in Nigeria to rise once again to the occasion and strengthen its status as a true sports giant of Africa.
