American Artificial Intelligence (AI) research organization OpenAI is trying to compete directly with search engine giant Google by testing SearchGPT.
The search engine launched with a large text box asking the user, “what are you looking for?” Instead of providing a list of links, SearchGPT tries to organize and understand them.
In one OpenAI example, the search engine summarizes its findings about a music festival before providing an event summary and attribution link.

This feature seeks to improve search queries by providing “timely answers” from across the internet and allowing users to ask follow-up questions.
The temporary prototype is currently only available for testing and feedback by a limited number of users and publishing partners, but those interested can join a waiting list.
Google and Perplexity’s rival will only be accessible for the time being as a prototype in limited release, with the ambition to eventually integrate it into ChatGPT.
