Project 2025 Director Resigns Over Trump Backlash

 

Paul Dans has resigned as director of Project 2025, the conservative strategy for a possible second term for Donald Trump, amid strong criticism, including from the former president.

Dans’s departure was confirmed in a statement to CNN by Dr. Kevin Roberts, president of the Heritage Foundation, the group that launched Project 2025. Before joining Heritage to lead the project, Dans served as a senior official in the Trump White House.

“Under Paul Dans’ leadership, the 2025 Project has accomplished exactly what it set out to do: bring together over 110 leading conservative organizations to create a unified conservative vision, motivated to devolve power from the unelected administrative state and return it to the people,” Roberts said. “This tool was created to be used by any future administration.”

Launched to give the next Republican president a roadmap for his first 180 days in office, the conservative proposals of the 2025 Project have provided Democrats with ample criticism to warn against a second Trump presidency. Trump himself has sought to distance himself from Heritage’s work, saying on social media, “I have no idea who’s behind this.”

In a statement released Tuesday, Trump campaign managers Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita said: “For over a year, President Trump’s campaign has been very clear that Project 2025 had nothing to do with the campaign, did not speak on behalf of the campaign, and should not be associated in any way with the campaign or the President.”

They went on to say, “Reports of the demise of Project 2025 would be very welcome and should serve as a warning to anyone or any group seeking to misrepresent their influence over President Trump and his campaign: it will not end well for you.”

According to a CNN investigation, at least 140 people who worked in the Trump administration took part in the project.

President Joe Biden and now Vice President Kamala Harris have sought to highlight some of the policies proposed by the 2025 Project, casting the platform as a huge liability for Trump, and Democrats have launched a series of commercials on the conservative agenda. [CNN]
