The date was 1985. Headquarters, national stadium, Lagos. The event was the fight for the vacant national middleweight champion. The two fighters; Jerry (the loudmouth) Okorodudu and Joe Lasisi. Okorodudu had boasted that he was going to stop Lasisi in the second round. But when the game started, the scene changed. Okorodudu took a severe beating and threw in the towel in the eighth round. He later said he was delighted with the Lasisi camp. Twenty-eight years later, Okorodudu recounts his experience in that fateful fight. This is part of our exclusive interview with the former Olympian.

Foolish man, Lasisi was a ferocious fighter who beat Okorodudu when they were amateurs as well as when they were professional boxers, all fights ended in KOs. Jerry used to talk too much instead of concentrating on his more powerful Lasisi. He saw three or four Lasisi from many blows to the head since he was busy talking too much when Lasisis was practising for the fight.
