A wave of anger swept through Government House, Port Harcourt, on Thursday after the state Governor Siminalayi Fubara promised cash rewards to protesting youths.
Addressing the protesters on Thursday, Governor Fubara acknowledged their frustration and said, βYou are here because you want a better Nigeria. I am one of you. I see your suffering. I will convey your message to the President.β

Despite the Governorβs reassurances, many protesters were offended by the Governorβs offer of money. Some youths responded by shouting, βHow much can you give us? We want good governance and not money. Keep your money,β as a form of their dissatisfaction with the Governorβs actions.
