NYSC clarifies news on payment of N70,000 minimum wage to corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has reacted to reports circulating that corps members will soon start receiving the new minimum wage of N70,000 approved by the federal government.

The news stated that corps members’ bank accounts were being increased to accommodate the new minimum wage.

However, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations revealed that the story was not true.

Megwa in a statement made available to the media, said the news was untrue and that NYSC had not received any directive from the relevant authorities to commence payment of the minimum wage of #70,000 to Corps Members or to top up their accounts.

“This is a big lie that is far from the truth,” he said.

“Corps members, parents and the general public should note that no directive has been received from the relevant government sector responsible for the wage issue. It is therefore impossible for NYSC to release any information on the matter.

“Corps members are aware of the channels and means of communication agreed in the Scheme and should therefore disregard such directives accordingly.

“Therefore, through this release, NYSC warns corps members to desist from allowing troublemakers who intend to mislead Nigerians to continue exploiting their intelligence.

“Bloggers and social media influencers are warned to stop issuing statements concerning the management of the National Youth Service Corps without permission,” he said.
