Rotary Club 9112 District Governor, Rotarian Clement Olufemi Adenekan, has provided many useful tips on how young people can turn a setback into a recovery and achieve a successful comeback.
Sports247.ng reports that Rotarian Adenekan gave the briefing while speaking at the opening ceremony of the district’s first Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA 2024) at Sea School, Apapa, Lagos.
He revealed that the 294 attendees of the camp, which is located on an island off the quayside in the Apapa area of Liverpool, will acquire developmental skills that should help them overcome various adversities in life.
The affable governor, affectionately referred to as “DG” by other club officers and members, also urged attendees, now referred to as RYLArians, to tune into the camp’s theme, which is “using the magic of Rotary to unleash the potential of our youth.”
Adenekan began by encouraging the youth to start seeing themselves as tomorrow’s leaders, hence his charge that they learn well during the week-long camp experience that ends this Sunday.
“As young people, you are on the verge of a future that is good and educational, but challenging,” said Rotarian Adenekan.
“The exposure we will give you is immense and the impact you can have on the world is limitless.
“However, reaching our potential requires more than just talent and ambition.
“It requires vision, resilience and commitment to the personal goals that exist in your vision. The key is to adopt a clear vision for the future that inspires and motivates you.
“A clear vision has a roadmap that guides your efforts and decisions. It helps you focus your energy on what really matters, aligning your actions with long-term goals and moving you closer to resilience.”
The pioneer governor of the new district continued to philosophize on the values of facing life’s challenges, while urging all the teenagers, youth and young adults present under the huge canopy of the camp to remain positive in all circumstances.
“Challenges and setbacks are inevitable in life; but they are also opportunities for growth, once we remain resilient.
“Resilience is about maintaining momentum and enthusiasm in the face of adversity.
“It means learning from failure, adapting to each situation and moving forward with renewed determination.
“You must always remember that every setback is the prelude to a comeback.”
Rotarian Adenekan concluded in an emphatic but fatherly tone.
He also used the occasion to call on the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Honourable Bolaji Ogunlende, to assist the Rotary Club in realising all the projects he promised to execute during his tenure as Director General.
