A fire on Friday morning destroyed a seven-story building on Lagos Island.
Several shops were affected in the incident which occurred at 5:17 am, on Sanni Adewale Street in Lagos Island.
Lagos State Director of Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said in a statement that firefighters from Ebute Elefun, Sari and Lekki 1 stations were deployed to the scene immediately after receiving the distress call.
The statement read: βThe fire which started at around 5.17am caused panic in the area as residents ran for safety.

βBut emergency personnel are already on the ground to put out the fire that has destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
“Thanks to the swift action of the Lagos State Fire Service, the situation is now under control. Ventilation efforts are currently underway to ensure the safety of everyone in the area.
“Initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by a power surge. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.”
