Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi remains optimistic about Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the team’s struggles in the qualifying rounds.
The Super Eagles are yet to record a win, with three draws and a loss to Benin Republic, leaving them in a precarious position.
The team currently sit fifth in their group, with just three points out of a possible twelve. Iwobi acknowledges the challenges, but remains hopeful.
โI feel we still have a chance,โ Iwobi said. โIt is everyoneโs dream to play in the World Cup. I have been lucky enough to experience it and I believe we can still achieve it. However, we have made things difficult for ourselves.โ
Her teammate Ola Aina is also confident, not only in the team’s ability to qualify, but also in its potential to go far in the tournament.
โWe will be there, believe me,โ Aina said. โI think we have the team to make it to the semi-finals. Our team is very talented and I feel like we can achieve something special.โ
