Falana replied to the police, saying the NLC president, Ajaero, could not fulfill the invitation, giving the desired date.

Human rights activist and lawyer, Chief Femi Falana, has responded to the Nigerian Police Force’s invitation to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero.

Falana stated that Ajaero could not fulfill the invitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, due to a previous commitment.

In his letter to the Inspector General of Police, Falana explained that Ajaero accepted the police invitation on Monday, August 19, and had committed to a meeting on August 20.

However, Ajaero is willing to appear at the National Police Headquarters on August 29.

The letter entitled “Regarding the Invitation Letter” reads:

“We are the Lawyers of the Nigerian Labour Congress and its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, on whose behalf we are writing this letter in relation to the above matter.

“We have instructions from Comrade Joe Ajaero to inform you that he will not be able to honor your invitation on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, considering that he received your invitation letter yesterday. He has an appointment that was made prior to the receipt of the invitation letter.

“Therefore, Comrade Ajaero is available for your interview on Wednesday, 29th August, 2024. Furthermore, in accordance with the provisions of section 36 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, Comrade Ajaero requests the details and nature of the charges of Criminal Conspiracy, Financing of Terrorism, Crimes of Treason, Subversion and Cybercrime levelled against him.

“While awaiting your positive response to this letter, please accept our assurance of our highest appreciation.”
