PSC and Police Trust Fund Form New Partnership to Save the Future of Nigeria’s Security Architecture

On Wednesday, August 21, the leadership of the Police Service Commission met with the visiting leadership of the Police Trust Fund and agreed to create a productive partnership that the two organizations confirmed “is critical to the future of the nation’s security architecture.”

The two institutions underlined their critical role in ensuring that the Nigerian Police Force is not only equipped but also prepared to meet the challenges of modern policing.

The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu rtd, mni, who led the PSC team which included, DIG Taiwo Lakanu rtd, Commissioner and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary of the meeting, said the Commission was ready to collaborate with the Fund to restore the dignity of the Nigerian Police Force.

DIG Argungu noted that without the police force, there would be no PSC or PTF, stressing that both institutions must work together to see a new and dynamic police force, worthy of the respect and approval of the citizens.

The Trust Fund’s Executive Secretary, Mohammed Sheidu, in his opening remarks noted that the Fund’s objective “is to provide the necessary resources to improve the welfare, training and operational capabilities of police officers,” adding that “our initiatives, such as the modernization of schools and police institutions, the implementation of energy solutions in stations and barracks, and fundraising through public and private partnerships are all geared towards this goal.”

Mr Shied said however that the Fund recognises that these efforts must be complemented by the Commission’s work in maintaining the highest standards of discipline and professionalism within the Force.

He added that the partnership is therefore critical to ensuring that these resources are used effectively and that officers are well-equipped to serve and protect our communities.

The Executive Secretary said that the Fund looks forward to strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions, stressing that “together we can create a police force that not only meets the expectations of
our people but to overcome them”

He thanked the PSC Chairman for the opportunity to discuss how “we can work together to achieve our common goals,” adding: “I am confident that our joint efforts will lead to a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.”
