NSCDC arrests 3 alleged vandals in Katsina

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said it has arrested three suspected vandals of street light cables in Katsina State.

The Corps spokesperson, DSC Buhari Hamisu, made the statement on Thursday during the parade of suspects in Katsina.

He said that Special Anti Vandal Patrol operatives arrested the suspects (whose names were withheld) at different locations in Katsina metropolis.

“The suspects belonged to a well-known syndicate specializing in vandalizing armored street lighting cables and stealing weapons during their operations,” he said.

He said the suspects conspired with their accomplices, now at large, and vandalised street lighting wires on Usman Nagogo Road, opposite the state Ministry of Public Works.

“They later moved into an unfinished building along with two others, where they burned the cables,” he said.

Hamisu said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had previously vandalized street lighting cables at the same location and sold them to a major buyer of stolen items.

The spokesman said officers also arrested a 16-year-old suspect for allegedly vandalising street lighting wires on Hassan Usman Road, near Union Bank.

He said the suspects will be brought to trial once investigations are completed and urged parents to warn their children against vandalism and vice.
