FCT residents slam AEDC inefficiency, threaten to occupy company offices

Residents of Jikwoyi Phase IV in the Federal Capital Territory voiced their anger and frustration on Monday over the failure of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company to replace a faulty transformer that left them without electricity for two weeks.

In his letter to the Managing Director of AEDC Zone 4, the chairman of the Landlords Association, Mr. Bolakale Akeem, accused the company of negligence and inadequate maintenance, despite their significant revenue from the community.

“It is sad that even though the infrastructure in Phase 4 was built through collective efforts, AEDC continues to collect huge revenues from citizens without providing necessary maintenance or upgrades,” Akeem said.

The residents are demanding immediate replacement of damaged transformers, old risers, aluminium conductors and wooden poles. They have warned that if their demands are not met within a week, they will stage a protest at the AEDC office.

“We are confident that AEDC can resolve this issue within a week. We must stress that the residents are increasingly agitated and dissatisfied with the lack of response from AEDC. If no action is taken within a week of receiving this notice, we will have no choice but to occupy the AEDC office until our demands are met as a way to resolve this situation,” the residents warned.

Residents have sent copies of their letter to various authorities, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, local police divisions and community leaders, seeking immediate intervention to restore power.
