Carabao Cup: Keith Andrews confirms Benjamin Fredrick’s first team debut

Nigerian international defender Benjamin Fredrick is back to full fitness after spending the last eight months on the treatment table for a meniscus injury he suffered in November last year, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Fredrick spent last season on loan at Belgian side FC Dender, a loan spell that ended abruptly due to injury, but he has now fully recovered and made two appearances for the under-21 team.

Head coach Keith Andrews confirmed today that the 21-year-old will be in the squad for tomorrow’s Carabao Cup match against Reading, possibly making his first-team debut.

“He hasn’t played much football. We decided not to play him yesterday in the Team B game to make sure he was in the right place to be available (tomorrow).” the coach said in his pre-match press conference.

Highly rated within the club, Fredrick, who has started all six of his senior appearances for Nigeria, rose through the club’s ranks and two seasons ago was voted its best under-23 player.
