Nigeria was drawn in Group C alongside Algeria and Chad at the 2026 African Men’s Volleyball Championship in Tunisia.
The tournament, which begins September 15, will also serve as a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Nigeria men’s volleyball team coach Ryan Masajedi has said the team’s immediate aim is to secure qualification from the group stage.
The Japanese coach warned his players against underestimating their opponents, adding that every team at the championship will aim to make a statement.
Masajedi said: “The players understand what is at stake and we will approach each match as it comes.
“The first task before us is to get through the group stage and then wait for our opponent in the next round.
“We will not underestimate any team in our group because they are equally in the league to make a statement.”
The coach also urged Nigerians to believe in the team and pray for their success as they begin their campaign in Tunisia.
Nigeria finished seventh at the 2021 African Men’s Volleyball Championship in Rwanda after defeating the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-0 (25-10, 25-20, 25-22) in the ranking match.
The country, however, missed out on the 2023 edition of the competition.
