Mariam has just won a bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics, becoming the first Nigerian and African athlete to win an Olympic or Paralympic medal in badminton. She defeated Ukraine’s Kozyna Oksana 21-9, 21-9 in the bronze medal match this morning.

Although the road to this point has been very hard, we are now here with a medal that demonstrates all the effort and investment both on the part of the federation and, more importantly, the player herself.

The journey to achieve this remarkable milestone was made possible by a collective of public, private and individual efforts, with the Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), Federal Ministry of Sports Development, late Coach Bello Oyebanji, Dina Sarinena, states like Abia and Kaduna, corporate organisations like Mikano International, GIG Group and Owu Sportswear playing crucial roles and providing tremendous support throughout the journey.

Eniolaโ€™s remarkable victory is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional talent and relentless pursuit of excellence. Her hard work and perseverance have paid off, not only for herself but for the entire Nigerian sporting community.

The BFN sincerely congratulates Eniola Mariam Bolaji for her outstanding performance. Her achievement is a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes from Africa and Nigeria, making it a proud moment for us all.
