Nigerian police have denied claims made by wanted British national Andrew Wynne that he was not invited for questioning before being declared a wanted person.
Police spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi, speaking to reporters in Abuja on Tuesday, said Wynne had been contacted several times and had refused to cooperate.
Adejobi said, βHe (Wynne) has been contacted several times. He is unknown. We went to raid the bookstore. When he asked, he came out. If you have a legitimate business, wonβt you ask the police what we are doing in his shop or office?β
Police have declared Wynne and his Nigerian accomplice, Lucky Obiyan, wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu and have put a N20 million bounty on them. Wynne has claimed on Channels Televisionβs Politics Today show that he was unaware he had been labeled wanted.

Adejobi replied, βUp till now, he has not shown up. We have been able to track down his private school. We have visited his school; did he show up? We have interrogated his staff and people who work with him. Did he show up? So where is he and why is he hiding and talking from hiding that he has no case to answer?β
The police spokesman stressed that an offense had been committed against Wynne and challenged him to come out of hiding and face the law like his accomplices.
βWe have already established one or more offenses against him, and we have even declared him a fugitive. His accomplices have been charged in court. Let him out. At least those people work for him.β
