Edo State First Lady Betsy Obaseki on Saturday responded to a now-viral video in which former state governor Adams Oshiomhole mocked her for not having children.
Speaking during a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the diaspora, accompanied by Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, wife of the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), she reminded the women that everyone was created by God for a purpose.
He urged childless women to see themselves not as sterile, but as fertile, potential and proud mothers of the children who would come in God’s appointed time.
Mrs. Obaseki also shared a message of encouragement for women who, like her, have had to deal with the pain of miscarriages and stillbirths, urging them not to feel discouraged or scarred by their losses.

Addressing the over 200 women who attended the Zoom meeting from various countries, Mrs. Obaseki said: “I dare to call you fruitful. You and I are potential and proud mothers of children who will come at God’s appointed time. Enjoy the life God has given you.
“My words of comfort to you, who like me have conceived and experienced miscarriages, painful stillbirths and evacuations of dead babies in our wombs, are that all were created by God for a purpose; and as a result, (we) have no children to show for the pain we have endured; you are not sterile.
“Take your mind off the challenge, and before you know it, the kids will start arriving.”
She further stated that her contribution to society was much broader than just her role as a mother.
She stressed that being fertile is not just about having children, but also about having an impact on people’s lives and creating positive change in society.
Betsy said, “There’s no point in feeling bad. Women can fulfill God’s purpose in many ways besides motherhood.” [TheNiche]
