The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) said on Wednesday that the country has witnessed a 128 percent increase in cholera cases.
In a post on its website, the agency said Lagos state accounted for 60 percent of all cases, with Lagos Island being the most affected local government area.
He added that the number of deaths also increased by 106 percent with 204 deaths in 2024.
The agency reported 7,056 suspected cases as of Sept. 1, compared with 3,096 cases at the same time in 2023.

The Federal Government on June 24 declared a state of cholera emergency.
This is due to a case fatality rate of 3.5 percent, well above the national average estimate of one percent.
The NCCD also identified other badly affected states including Bayelsa, Katsina and Zamfara.
“Cholera mortality rates improved slightly, falling to 2.9 percent from 3.2 percent in 2023,” the report said.
