Police officers in Kogi have arrested nine suspects in connection with the communal crisis in the Itamah area of ββthe state.
The crisis followed the killing of the community’s traditional leader, Onu Itamah Job Shagari.
The king was killed by gunmen who stormed the community on August 12.
The death of the traditional ruler has created a rift between two families β Okenyi Abu-Atika and Shagari-Ebijegor β in the community.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha, confirmed the arrest to journalists on Thursday in Lokoja.
CP said police were tracking other suspects.
He said: βWhat the police are asking for now is for peace to be allowed to prevail in the Itamah community.
βThe damage that has been done to the community is unfortunate and unacceptable.
βWe want a situation where the affected families can come together and have a dialogue to find a lasting solution.
βA situation where members of society are involved in eye-to-eye, the entire society will become blind and there will be no peace at all there.β
Onuoha denied allegations that the command had not responded to petitions on the crisis that led to the destruction of houses and other properties in the community.
