Stanley or Kelechi: Chelle clarifies that Iheanacho was part of the Super Eagles team

Nigeria senior national team coach Eric Chelle has clarified who he has invited to the team for the upcoming friendly match against Russia between Kelechi Iheanacho and Stanley Iheanacho, as OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

We report that Stanley Iheanacho, who plays for Danish side Midtjylland, has been called up to replace the injured Sani Suleiman from Saudi Arabia’s Al Qadsiah.

However, when the list of players was made public, it was Kelechi Iheanacho, who plays for Bursaspor in the Turkish second division, who was called up to replace Sani.

“There is no confusion. It was Kelechi Iheanacho who was called up and not Stanley Iheanacho, but Stanley was put on standby in case someone got injured,” the coach revealed.

“Iheanacho is being rewarded for his return to form despite the level he is playing. He has a lot of experience and will be needed in a game like that.”
