Two suspected kidnappers and an informer terrorizing communities in Ningi local government area of Bauchi State have been arrested by law enforcement officers and local hunters in the state.
The alleged kidnappers are Salau and Yellow who were brought before the Emir of Ningi, Haruna Yunusa Danyaya at his palace in Ningi by the protest leaders and hunters on Thursday.
In his speech, the leader of the guard squad said that there needed to be careful tracing and strict monitoring of the group before finally being able to track and arrest the suspects.
He said the suspects had recently been operating around the Balma and Burra communities, where they kidnapped a number of people and demanded ransom.
He told Emir that the suspects had been torturing local residents for three years by kidnapping, asking for ransom, and in some cases killing their victims.
One of the suspects, popularly known as Yellow, admitted that he and others had carried out the kidnapping and demanded ransom before releasing them.
He said the group had received at least N60 million from many of their victims before they were released, adding that they operated as a syndicate with informants who gave them vital information about the victims before they attacked.
Secretary of the Ningi Emirate Council, Usman Suleh Magayaki confirmed the arrest of the suspects and their presence before the Emir.
He said: “These criminals have tarnished our good name with their activities in the past three years. They have kidnapped many innocent people and forced their families to pay huge ransoms before the victims were released.
“As you can see, Allah has helped us, these volunteers, fighters and hunters risked their lives to comb the forest and get them caught. We are truly grateful to them.”
When contacted for official confirmation on the development, state police spokesman Ahmed Wakili said he had not received any reports from the area but promised to brief reporters when the information was available.
