UN chief condemns terrorist attacks in Mali

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemned the terrorist attacks in Mali.

Gunmen on Tuesday attacked a police compound in Bamako, the country’s capital, where more than 70 people were killed and more than 200 injured.

However, in a statement hours later, Mali’s Ministry of Security and Civil Protection assured that the situation was under control.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, on Friday, the UN chief expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims as well as to the transitional government and people of Mali.

“The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist attack in Bamako, Mali, on 17 September.

“He also prayed for a speedy recovery for those injured, including one of the UN guard members.

“The UN leadership urges Mali’s transitional government to ensure that those responsible for this heinous attack are held accountable,” the statement added.
