The Kebbi government confirmed 29 people died, 329 thousand houses were destroyed due to flooding

The Kebbi State Government on Friday confirmed that 29 people died in the recent flooding incidents in the state.

This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Birnin Kebbi, at a briefing in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the floods washed away 858,000 hectares of farmland and destroyed 329,000 homes in the state.

The commissioner said the incident had overwhelmed the government despite its efforts to provide assistance to the victims.

He said: “Governor Nasir’s administration has done its best to serve those affected by the floods, a sound compilation of reports on the extent of the disaster in each community across the local government areas has been created and will be submitted to the Federal Agencies. concerned, this Friday.

“We are asking for help, the situation is dire, and the government needs help to resettle those affected effectively.

“Many have lost their livelihoods, this disaster has forced farmers into poverty, food shortages are looming, and our food security targets are in jeopardy unless immediate action is taken to improve the situation.

“The Kebbi government will provide better seeds and other agricultural inputs to farmers to return to farming, but more is needed.

“Preliminary statistics show that seven people died in Ngaski, eight in Maiyama, five in Kalgo, seven in Jega, and two in Birnin Kebbi, due to flooding.”
