The Labor Party tasked the Nigerian government with nation building

The National Chairman of the Labor Party, Julius Abure, on Tuesday, urged the Federal Government to accelerate action on the challenges slowing down the nation’s progress.

Abure made this call in a statement to mark Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.

He urged politicians to avoid actions that are contrary to the nation’s socio-economic development and take people-oriented decisions and actions.

Abure said the LP remained committed to strengthening the nation’s democracy through free and fair elections.

He said it was time for Nigerians to join hands and fight against electoral malpractices, poverty, insurgency and corruption.

“Banditry and insurgency have devastated the North East region, displacing millions of people and claiming thousands of lives.

“Bad roads and poor hospitals and other infrastructure hinder economic development and access to basic services,” the chairman said.

He urged government at all levels to ensure that education is affordable for every Nigerian.

Abure added: “The costs of education and transportation have skyrocketed, making it difficult for ordinary Nigerians to access these essential services.

“Since Nigeria gained independence from British rule on October 1, 1960, the country has made significant progress but current challenges threaten to undermine its development.”

He, therefore, urged Nigerians to unite to face the nation’s challenges.

“When we as a society join hands to fight this problem, Nigeria will be ready for true democracy that will produce good governance and quality leadership,” he said.

Abure commended President Bola Tinubu for recognizing the nation’s challenges in his Independence Day speech and urged him to urgently rectify them.
