NPFL clubs receive share of first tranche of Euromatch sponsorship

Clubs participating in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, have received their respective shares of the first tranche of the league’s Euromatch title sponsorship package.

NPFL Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Ayo Hammed Abdulrahman, confirmed this in an exclusive interview with SportsPro News at his Ilorin residence on Thursday.

Abdulrahman clarified that the total value of the Euromatch title sponsorship deal is $7.5 million over three years, which is equivalent to $2.5 million annually, correcting reports suggesting the sponsorship was worth $1 million.

“Euromatch is a title sponsorship. It’s not a million dollars, if I am to correct the impression. The whole package is 7.5 million dollars for three years, that is, 2.5 million dollars per year.

“So, in the first tranche that was received, the clubs received their percentage. I confirm it to you.”

The NPFL’s chief operating officer, however, highlighted that the league has not yet received its entire sponsorship allocation for the year.

According to him, the funds received so far have only been distributed to the participating clubs based on the agreed percentage.

“Not all. I didn’t say all. The tranches that have been received, the percentage owed to the clubs have been paid, but we have not received the entire year.”

Abdulrahman urged interested parties to distinguish between the total Euromatch sponsorship package and the amount already received by the league, pointing out that describing all sponsorship money as received by the clubs could create a misleading impression.

“You have to separate it. When it is said that the Euromatch money has been received for the clubs, it creates a bigger impression than expected.”

“But of the tranches that have been received in Nigeria, the percentage has been tamed to the clubs since last week.”

The clarification comes amid discussions over the financial commitments associated with the NPFL’s new title sponsorship deal with Euromatch.
