The man imprisoned over 1.1 million debts freed after public donations

A Nigerian man, Jonathan Biodun, imprisoned over a debt of 1,137,000, regained his freedom after compassionate individuals gathered together to free his debt.

In a sincere video shared on X (previously Twitter) by the ray of hope of hope on Friday, Jonathan expressed gratitude to all those who contributed to his liberation.

The case came to light when a group of Twitter influencers visited the corrective structure for a friendly football match with prisoners. During the visit, one of the prisoners discreetly delivered a letter to an influencer, who later shared him on social media, arousing widespread attention and requires help.

“Please help me. I know all of you on Twitter. I saw how you helped people online.

“I cried online for assistance before I was postponed to this corrective center, but Agba Jon Doe tagged me a scammer.

“My name is Jonathan and I am here due to a debt of ₦ 1,137,000.

“Please help me. I could have “been” online “for anyone of you. Please neglect my attitude and help me. This is the number of my spouse for more details. “

Moved by his reason, a social media user, Sir Dickson, who identifies himself as #Wizarab10, has amplified the request for help, affirming:

“I received this from prison yesterday through #hausa_girl.

“Nobody should be in prison for a debt. It is not a criminal crime. I talked to #egi_nupe___ and we’ll take it. Imagine we rot in prison because you are poor. Thanks for your unwavering faith and support. 🙏🏾 🙏🏾 🙏🏾

A public donation campaign was launched and quite funds were raised in a few weeks to resolve its debt. Jonathan was finally released by the Apapa Kirikiri corrective center.

Overwhelmed by gratitude, he expressed his appreciation in a video, saying:

“Hi everyone. My name is Thomas Jonathan Biodun. I have just been released from the Apapa Kirikiri corrective center. I am taking advantage of the opportunity to thank you to all those who have given, contributed or supported in any way. I’m so grateful.

“You have no idea what this freedom means for me. From the depth of my heart, I am saying a great thanks to all of you. “
