David Dosu defends the call of Super Eagles by Kayode Bankole, says “Chelle can never be wrong”

Former goalkeeper David Dosu, older brother of former Nigerian International Dosu Joseph, has strongly defended the Kayode Bankole team for the Super Eagles team before the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Going to critics who question the inclusion of Bankole, Dosu emphasized that the young Shot-Stopper has earned his place through hard work and perseverance.

Speaking in an interview with Sports247 shortly after the chief coach Γ‰ric SΓ©kou Chelle announced his final team of 23 men, Dosu dismissed doubts about the preparation of Bankole for the national team.

“Many say that it does not take place in the national team, but I am here to tell them that it is not a coincidence that the new coach has chosen it,” said Dosu.

β€œHe started with me at the Agege stadium with the Pepsi Academy. I trained it myself and tried to take it to different clubs, but they kept saying that it was too young. With patience and dedication, he found his place in Remo Stars FC, and since then, he has never looked back. ”

Dosu also insisted that the coach made the right decision, stating: β€œThe coach can never be wrong. He sees the players, observe their performances and make the best decisions for the team. Bankole has worked hard and deserves this opportunity. “

Bankole is one of the three goalkeepers named in Chelle’s final team for the next qualifiers. Next to him on the team are Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa) and Amar Obasogie (Singled Blackstars, Tanzania).

The Super Eagles will face the leaders of the Ruanda Group in Kigali on March 21 before facing Zimbabwe in Uyo on March 25, while they continue their trip towards obtaining a place in the FIFA 2026 World Cup.
