Miyetti Allah accused the poisoning of cows in Benue, demanding security strengthening

The Association of Cattle Farmers of God Miyetti in Nigeria (Macban) in the state of the benue on Sunday eradicates concerns about their alleged livestock poisoning by criminal elements in the regional government in the state in that state.

Chairman of Macban in the state, Risku Muhammated, told reporters that at least 20 cows had been killed in the incident.

He accused the perpetrators in the area of ​​deliberately targeting their livestock with the latest incidents that occurred on Saturday in Ucha Village.

According to Muhammated, a local farmer identified as carrying Sneh who allegedly waved rice rented with poison and invited herds to grasp the cattle -but on it.

He said: “I got a report from my member in Agatu LGA that a criminal who had extinguished rice with poison invited one of our members to come and shepherd the cows.

“Unfortunately, 13 cows died instantly, while seven others are currently receiving treatment from veterinarians.”

Muhammated also accused that only a few days before poisoning, the criminals had blabbed 200 cows, although security operators succeeded in intervening and arrested one suspect while the other fled.

He expressed concern over recurring attacks on herders in Agatu with Olegodege, Uterologi, Egwuma, Akele, and the OKWTANOBE community as hotspots.

He, however, praised the Chairman of the LGA Agatu, Melvin James, for his rapid response to the crisis.

He noted that the council and several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) previously compensated by the shepherd due to the loss of livestock.

In response, James confirmed that the council had received Macban’s complaints and had launched an investigation.

He said: “Agatu has enjoyed peace because of the efforts of the peace committee that we made.

“But it is unfortunate that some criminal elements are determined to incite the crisis and destroy the peace process. The government will not fold its arms and let it happen.”

James urged the state government to mobilize more security operators to Agatu to maintain fragile peace in the region, which has long been a flame point for the shepherd conflict.

Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command also confirmed the incident with her spokesman, Catherine Anene, who stated that the investigation was ongoing and that a suspect had been arrested.

“I have a briefing this morning (Sunday) about dead cows that are said to have been poisoned. The investigation is happening, and a suspect has been arrested,” Anene said.

He convinced the population that law enforcement agencies and peace committees worked to maintain stability in Agatu.
