Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, leader of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) in the State of Yobe, convened the party members on Friday to dissipate the voices on his departure from the party, insisting on the fact that a member remains.
By contacting the supporters in the city of Potiskum, Waziri recognized that the PDP is struggling with “evidence and tribulations, including leadership problems”.
He confirmed his involvement in the coalition interviews with the members of the PDP and other political parties, underlining that the discussions extend beyond the internal affairs of the party.
He revealed that the talks include representatives of the PDP, of all progressives (APC), the Labor Party and other opposition groups, with the aim of “building a platform strong enough to challenge the evil of the APC.
“Let me be clear, they are not in these interviews as a representative of the PDP. Partly as a democratic that exercises my right to associate and express opinions,” said Waziri.
He expressed confidence in supporting the members of the PDP and non -PDP in the State of Yobe and underlined his duty to keep them informed of his national commitments to avoid surprises.
Waziri urged the PDP to position himself as the main opposition to face Nigeria’s challenges by 2027, stating that “democracy cannot exist without opposition”.
He also complained about the inability of the party to provide a necessary platform for an effective opposition to guide the national discourse.
On the request of the North Central to produce the national president of the PDP, Waziri cited the Constitution of the party, saying: “If the president leaves the office, the deputy assumes the role in a provisional capacity until a permanent replacement is appointed.
“These are the rules and we must respect them.”
