Police arrested three Nigerians for alleged drug trafficking in Libya

Police operations in Libya have arrested three Nigerians for alleged drug trafficking.

Migrant Rescue Watch (MRW) said in a statement on Monday.

The three were arrested by the Samnu Police Department in South Libya for having a large number of cannabis, which were believed to be intended to be sold.

The Nigerian arrest organization came in the midst of increasing security operations in the region aimed at curbing illegal drug activities and cross -border trade by migrants.

“All three, whose identities have not been disclosed, are detained during the targeted operation in Samnu City, which is located in the Murzuq District in South Libya,” MRW said.

“This area is known as a hotspot for human trafficking and route smuggling because of its proximity to the southern border of Libya.

“After their arrest, the case was immediately referred to public prosecution for further investigation and the possibility of legal proceedings.

“All three were found to have a number of cannabis allocated for sale. This case was referred to public prosecution.”
