Oyo: 5 Suspects Arrested in Connection with Bandits Attack on Military Base – Commissioner

Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack by armed bandits on a military base on the outskirts of Igbeti, Olorunsogo Local Government Area of ​​Oyo State.

Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said this in a statement on Tuesday after visiting the military base alongside the deputy governor of the state, Adebayo Lawal.

Prince Oyelade said no fewer than five terrorists were arrested in military uniform, while further arrests were made.

While being led to the site of the attack by the 81st Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Innocent Asogwa, the commissioner said it was revealed that no fewer than 120 soldiers were sent into the bush on the trail of the terrorists.

He added that while explaining the cause of the fire that burned the building and a vehicle, the commander said the terrorists used grenade launchers that detonated cooking cylinders in the premises.

Prince Oyelade noted that the surveillance aircraft recently procured by the State constantly engage in random sorties (exercises) and cannot be permanently in the sky, but will remain close at hand for all operations and reconnaissance.

He said an emergency committee of the five adjoining local government councils of Olorunsogo, Oriire, Saki East, Orelope and Irepo had been established to attend to all needs of security men in the areas and liaise with the state government for timely assistance.
