Wike swears to accelerate the development of FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, Nyesom Wike, said that significant reforms in the administration of the territory in the FCT are intended to combat speculation on the earth and accelerate the development of the capital of the nation.

Speaking shortly after the inspections of infrastructure key projects in Abuja Tuesday, Wike indicated that the reforms are designed to discourage people from retaining the allocations of land for speculative purposes, often awaiting the appreciation of the market before selling.

He also declared the importance of development and timely payment to guarantee the efficient allocation and use of soil resources.

He said: “We are trying to stop the terrestrial speculators. Someone who says he wants to land in Abuja but has not been able to develop it for two years … This is speculation on Earth. Dressing the concerns regarding the expiry of 21 days for the payment of the associated commissions for the issue of C by O, Wike questioned: “Why shouldn’t you pay taxes within 21 days? What is wrong? There is nothing wrong. You can’t request the land and therefore you have no money to pay O. of O. does not make sense. 21 days are sufficient.”

He also said that Minister FCT has the authority to implement reforms without the need for further qualifying legislation.
